Program

Libraries Lending Hope: Trauma Informed Libraries

Libraries and library staff are often on the front lines of many issues that deeply affect communities such as homelessness, hunger, addiction, unemployment, violence and healthcare.  Providing an oasis of hope for others can be challenging, but even small efforts can have a big impact. Dr. Harper will highlight how libraries can respond to trauma and need through programming and outreach. She will also discuss the "how to" aspect of lending hope through non-judgmental/non-evaluative service approaches, incorporating an ethic of care and specific suggestions for resources, programming, and staff training.

The CE portion of the program is modeled on the MLA Discussion Group Program, which provides an opportunity for participants to explore a topic of interest with other professionals and earn CE credit. Individuals may use MLA CE hours earned through the discussion group for AHIP credit.

Participants need to read the assigned articles in advance of the meeting and come prepared to engage in an interactive discussion. Click here to open the reading list in RefWorks or as a PDF Harper-Reading-List.pdf Please contact Don Pearson (dpearso7@kent.edu), the convener for this discussion, if you do not have access to any of the listed articles.

4.0 MLA CE contact hours will be awarded.
